SSC CGL Overview
The Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) examination is one of the most popular government job recruitment exams in India. Conducted annually, it fills Group B and Group C posts across various central government ministries, departments, and organizations such as Income Tax, CBI, Customs, Central Secretariat, ED, and many more. Lakhs of graduates compete each year for around 15,000+ vacancies.
Exam Pattern
SSC CGL has two main tiers. Tier 1 is a 1-hour computer-based test with 100 questions across General Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension (25 each, 200 marks). Tier 2 is a more advanced computer-based test with three papers (Paper 1 mandatory; Paper 2 for Statistical Investigators; Paper 3 for AAOs). Tier 1 has –0.50 negative marking; Tier 2 Paper 1 has –1.

- English Comprehension — grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, error spotting, sentence rearrangement
Preparation Strategy
Start with NCERT Class 6–10 for General Awareness fundamentals. Use Lucent's GK for revision. For Quant, master Rakesh Yadav / Kiran Publication books and aim for high accuracy. For Reasoning, daily practice of 50 questions builds speed. For English, read newspapers and revise grammar through Plinth to Paramount by Neetu Singh. Solve previous 10 years' papers and take 2 mocks per week.
